 Lower Limb
anterior cruciate ligament
- The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a band of fibrous tissue that provides support to the knee joint by connecting bones or cartilages. It is one of the four important ligaments of the knee. The anterior cruciate ligament can be injured by tearing. Its fibres can be torn, or a tear can develop where the ligament attaches to the femur, which is the thighbone, or to the tibia, which is the lower leg bone.
congenital dislocation of the hip
hip pinning
- Hip pinning is a procedure used to repair a hip fracture, or broken hip. Pinning means that one or more special metal pins are inserted into a bone or bones. Many people with hip fractures need to have this procedure. Often, it enables the hip to begin functioning and the person to move around earlier than if the bone had to heal on its own. Also, it can help reduce complications.
bunion repair
- Bunion surgery is a surgical procedure performed on the great toe joint. The purpose is to correct a deformity of the great toe or to remove a painful bump, called a bunion, at its base.
hip joint replacement
- Hip joint replacement is a surgical procedure to replace the hip joint. The new joint is artificial, and has two parts. The first part is the hip's socket, called the acetabulum. This is a cup-shaped bone in the pelvis. The second part is the "ball" or head of the femur, also called the thighbone.
knee arthroscopy
meniscus tear
- The meniscus is cartilage inside the knee joint. Tearing can occur on either side, the medial (inside) or lateral (outside). Meniscus is the name for either of two pieces of tough cartilage inside the knee joint. They are shaped like half moons and are sometimes called semilunar cartilage. One is on the medial side and one is on the lateral side. They act as cushions between the femur, or the thigh bone, and the tibia, which is the major bone of the lower leg, to which they are connected.
posterior cruciate ligament injury
- This type of injury results from the tearing of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in its fibres or at its attachment to the femur or tibia.
runner's knee
slipped capital femoral epiphysis
spinal anesthesia
Total knee replacement
- Knee joint replacement is surgery to replace a damaged or diseased knee joint with an artificial joint, or prosthesis. The goal is to improve the mobility and function of the knee joint and reduce pain.
